Minimum Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields and one (1) year experience. In lieu of a 4-year degree: an AA, AS or HVAC/Electrical Technical Certification and three (3) years of HVAC and energy management experience; or HVAC/Electrical Certification and five (5) years experience in HVAC, Electrical and energy management fields will be considered. Must possess an Environmental Protection Agency Universal Certification or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment. Satisfactory criminal history background check and satisfactory back x-ray required. Must be able to lift 60 lbs. and have the ability to climb ladders or scaffolding. Assignments may involve working in confined spaces and require bending or stooping for long periods and be able to work from ladders or elevated platforms. Outdoor work in all types of weather conditions may be required. Commitment to work irregular hours as required and on-call after normal hours for emergencies as needed is an expectation of the position. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver license and a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Requirements: Working knowledge of computer based management energy systems; Trane Tracer Summit experience; working knowledge of construction details and ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications; be able to perform all required functions necessary for HVAC, Electrical and Energy inspections.

Basic Function
Responsible for assisting the Director of Plant Operations in various functions related to energy management pertaining to all utilities including HVAC, electrical, plumbing and water. Highly responsible supervisory work in planning, designing, and participating in a program for renovation, modification and maintenance of HVAC and mechanical systems at PHCC facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists in the development and implementation of continual energy conservation encompassing the full spectrum of utilities consumption and other related operations district wide.

2. Studies and analyzes utilization of energy and conducts energy audits for each campus in order to reduce energy consumption and costs.

3. Assists in the preparation of PHCC’s utilities budget including forecasting three- year projected increases.

4. Reviews the technical features of buildings, HVAC, lighting and other energy consuming systems to ensure optimal energy performance.

5. Provides input to the Director of Plant Operations and the Director of Facilities on renovating, remodeling and new construction regarding HVAC and energy management systems. This includes applying for energy grants and utility rebate programs.

6. Maintains energy records and all data on utility bills, charts and graphs displaying progress on PHCC energy savings.

7. Monitors Trane Summit system activities and temperatures throughout all campuses. Performs routine inspections and maintains chillers, cooling towers, variable speed drives, multi-ton air conditioning/heating, refrigeration and heat pump equipment systems and controls.

8. Performs routine inspections, maintains chillers, cooling towers, variable speed drives, multi-ton air conditioning/heating, refrigeration, or wiring diagrams to determine location, size, capacity and type of component needed to repair the equipment. Insures that all HVAC repairs and preventative maintenance performed by facilities staff is completed satisfactorily.

9. Administers Trane and other HVAC contracts. Coordinates and supervises all work pertaining to the HVAC contracts.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.
